NETFX Setup & Deployment

I was going to talk about setup for .NET 3.5 SP1 however Scott Hanselman beat me to it with a very good article. He talks about why the actual size is large i.e. the redistributable contains all platforms and architectures. In addition he has setup a website and Javascript tag to allow you to calculate it for yourself and your users.

LiveScribe Pen Development

My wife saw the other day a very cool gadget, Pulse smart pen, made by LiveScribe. The pen uses special paper (although they are trying to give users the ability to print the paper) to capture what is written. In addition the pen has a mic to capture the audio associated with the notes being written.

Are you tired of using Google and having to add additional keywords to find stuff that is actually relevant to development. Well now someone has the solution called - C# Search .NET.

Farewell Mobile SST

It is with great joy and sadness that I saw goodbye for a while to the mobile application development space. Starting Monday I will be changing jobs at Microsoft. I will move into a Program Manager position on the full .Net Framework CLR team. I will continue to write about the mobile space but will be re-focusing on the full framework. In addition, I will not be traveling as much as I have in the past. So I should have more time to blog and work on the projects that I have been wanting to do after my wife and I settle down in the Seattle area.

The new Mobile Line of Business Accelerator 2008 includes a new data layer that can be used in your own projects to speed up development. When the Add Item screen for example is displayed, the user uses a combo box filled with inventory objects to pick inventory items to add to an order. This article walks through how the data gets from the database to the UI.

Tech Ed 2008 North America

Tech Ed 2008 North America is coming up next week. The show has now been split into two weeks. One for Software Developers and the other for IT Professionals. In addition, this year MEDC has been folded into Tech Ed. This is a great idea as now your training time and dollars do not need to be split between two shows. In the future Mobile developments will participate in the mainstream conferences like Tech Ed and PDC.
